Mercedes-Benz data cards and equipment: how to compare the details

Use the VIN, code descriptions and vehicle documents to make a clearer Mercedes-Benz equipment checklist.

Keep the data card tied to the car

A vehicle data card is useful only when it refers to the Mercedes-Benz you are examining. Match the VIN before comparing equipment entries. For a C-Class, E-Class, GLC or another model, keep the generation and body style in your notes. Avoid substituting a sample specification for the record associated with the individual vehicle.

Keep codes and wording together

Copy the complete code and its accompanying description. A short equipment label may not explain every function, so write down the exact question it leaves unanswered. If you consult a model guide, check that it applies to the relevant production period and market. Do not treat a package name from another year as a list of features for this car.

Distinguish original equipment from a later change

Ask about changes to wheels, trim, multimedia and accessories. An item visible at the viewing may have been fitted after production. Keep invoices or other supporting documents with the seller’s explanation. Equally, an item in the original record does not demonstrate its present condition or show whether it has since been replaced.

Turn the record into useful questions

Prepare a short list of important comfort and assistance functions. Ask the seller to show the relevant controls and demonstrate ordinary functions with the vehicle safely parked. Record what remains unconfirmed. A data card or equipment report can help organise the original specification; it does not replace an inspection, service records or separate vehicle-history checks.
