VINBYCAR / FIELD NOTES

Daewoo factory equipment, engines and comfort features

Organise the details of a Daewoo before you buy, so that the original specification and later changes are kept apart.

Confirm the model and version

Check that the VIN on the car matches the registration document, and write down the model, body style, engine size and gearbox. Some Daewoo models continued under another name in certain markets, so the badge on the car and the name in the documents may differ. Ask the seller which document shows the version they describe.

Review comfort and safety equipment

Go through the air conditioning, power windows, central locking, airbags and audio system one by one. Note which items are mentioned in the advert and ask to see them working. Older radios, alarms and wheels are often replaced, so record what is fitted today next to what the seller says was there from new.

Keep a record of repairs

Ask for invoices for the timing belt, clutch, brakes and rust repairs, and photograph the underbody if possible. Write down missing documents rather than filling the gaps with assumptions. An equipment list describes how the car was specified; it does not show wear or corrosion, so a qualified inspection remains important on an older vehicle.
