VINBYCAR / FIELD NOTES

Check charging equipment at an electric-car handover

Treat the cable, connector and vehicle capability as separate questions.

Identify each item

Ask which charging cables and accessories are included with the vehicle. Record their labels and intended use. Do not assume that a cable pictured in an advert is included in the sale or that every connector-looking accessory is suitable for the car.

Check compatibility before connecting

Confirm that the equipment is appropriate for the vehicle and the charging arrangement you intend to use. Connector shape alone does not establish the safe use of every cable, adapter or power supply. Follow the vehicle and charging-equipment instructions; do not improvise adapters or use visibly damaged equipment.

Keep charging claims in context

AC charging uses alternating current; DC charging uses direct current. A stated charging capability does not mean the car will always charge at that speed. Ask which charging capability is being described. Do not infer charging speed from the cable supplied with the car.

Make the handover practical

Ask how to open the charge port, connect and disconnect correctly, and locate the relevant charging settings. If a demonstration is arranged, use suitable equipment and follow its instructions. Record what was demonstrated and what remains unknown. Home electrical suitability should be assessed by a qualified electrician rather than inferred from a successful connection elsewhere. Keep the final equipment list with the handover documents.
